Role in the agent ecosystem

Service Relay is a voice agent built for a specific operational job: answering inbound calls for home-service businesses and turning them into scheduled work. It sits in the customer-facing layer of the agent stack, where the model has to hold a natural conversation, extract structured details (name, number, job type, address), classify urgency, and then hand off to a scheduling engine that reasons about durations, drive times, and technician availability. The interesting part is that second half. Most voice agents stop at capture; Service Relay's claim is that the agent has to close the loop into the calendar, and that requires the agent to know the business's constraints, not just transcribe a message.

The company is early and its connection to the broader agent ecosystem is more about category than infrastructure. It does not publish an API, an MCP server, or a developer platform, and the agent is not yet publicly callable. What it represents is the wave of vertical voice agents moving into trades that have historically been underserved by software: plumbing, HVAC, restoration, tree service. For people building or buying agents, Service Relay is a useful reference point for what a scheduling-aware voice agent looks like when the hard constraint is not language but logistics.

About

A voice agent that books the job, not just the message

Service Relay is an AI voice agent for owner-led home-service businesses. It answers calls the shop would otherwise miss, captures the caller's name, number, job, and address, and books the work into a slot that accounts for how long the job takes, who is free, and how far the drive is. The company's framing is blunt: a missed call is not a missed call, it is a job that just dialed a competitor.

The product is configured per trade. An owner defines jobs, durations, zones, and team, and the agent schedules against those constraints. It knows four things the site calls out explicitly: how long each kind of job really takes, travel time between stops, which technician should own the work, and whether a call is a true emergency. That last one matters. When the agent detects an emergency on the call, it routes straight to the right on-call person rather than into a queue or voicemail.

Where it sits against the alternatives

The crowded part of this market is answering. A dozen vendors will bolt a chatbot or a voice agent onto a phone line and take a message. Service Relay's argument is that the message is not the value; the scheduled job is. That puts it closer to field-service scheduling software than to a pure receptionist product, and the site says so: "Other tools take a message. Service Relay schedules the job."

The scheduling logic is the differentiator. The agent books into a slot that fits the business's real constraints, and when a technician runs behind, it works out what needs to move and waits for owner approval before anything reaches a customer. Nothing reschedules itself silently. That approval step is a deliberate design choice for shops where an unexplained calendar change is worse than a late job.

Deployment is flexible in a way that lowers the switching cost. A business can keep its current calendar and let Service Relay handle only the calls, or run the whole schedule on Service Relay. The agent writes jobs into the calendar the shop already uses. That is a pragmatic wedge: it lets an owner try the voice agent without ripping out ServiceTitan or Jobber on day one.

Who it is for

The target is owner-led shops in trades where a missed call is lost revenue and the schedule has to respect real-world constraints. The site names plumbing, HVAC, roofing, restoration, and tree service, plus electrical, garage doors, pest, and landscaping under "other home services." The common thread is storm-driven or emergency-driven demand: restoration crews that cannot miss a 24/7 water-damage call, HVAC shops with seasonal surges and no-heat priority jobs, tree services with storm spikes and on-site estimates.

The founder and the stage

Service Relay is founder-led. Doug Broughton spent years running high-volume logistics operations before a decade building software and AI, and the site leans on that background: the scheduling intelligence comes from someone who has run the kind of operation it serves. That is a reasonable claim for a product whose whole pitch is operational realism.

The company is early. The site is selling a 15-minute intro call, not a self-serve signup, and the agent itself is not yet publicly callable. "Coming soon: call the Service Relay agent and try it yourself, the way a customer would." Pricing is not published. For a buyer, that means a sales conversation and a configuration process before going live. For the category, it means the scheduling-aware voice agent is still a small, founder-driven bet rather than a scaled product.
